School Self-Evaluation

Scoil Mhuire Strokestown uses the School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process to review school practices and identify priorities for improvement. Our 2025/26 improvement plan focuses on wellbeing, with evidence gathered from students, parents and teachers.

The 2025/26 improvement plan follows the six-step School Self-Evaluation process and considers wellbeing across culture and environment, curriculum, policy and planning, and relationships and partnerships.

Identifying our focus. Scoil Mhuire’s SSE Committee recorded the outcomes of data gathered and our wellbeing improvement plan, including targets and the actions we will implement to meet the targets. We chose to gather evidence across all four ‘Key Areas’ of Wellbeing.

Gathering evidence. Evidence was gathered to review Wellbeing promotion in our school, in accordance with the Wellbeing Policy Statement and Framework for Practice 2018-2025. The SSE Committee surveyed students, parents and teachers, and conducted focus groups with the school’s Student Council and student body.

Our Improvement Priorities

Upon analysis of our gathered evidence, we have identified four areas we would like to focus on for our Improvement Plan:

Scoil Mhuire Strokestown Improvement Priorities
  • Learning Intentions & Success Criteria. Embed Learning Intentions, Assessment of Learning Intentions & Success Criteria in every classroom.
  • Feedback on School Reports. Enhance Feedback on School Reports by using clear, constructive comments.
  • Healthy Eating. Promote Healthy Eating using a whole-school approach, led by Student Voice.
  • Positive Rewards. Recognise and celebrate effort, progress & engagement by piloting a Positive Rewards System.

Feedback That Supports Learning

For 2026–27, the school’s feedback focus is to use WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If) to make feedback clear, positive and actionable.

WWW: Highlight what the student did well and what they should keep doing. EBI: Suggest one or two specific next steps for improvement.

Learning Intentions → Success Criteria → Feedback → Improved Student Learning

Feedback Focus 2026–27

The school’s WWW and EBI feedback poster illustrates how clear learning intentions, success criteria and constructive feedback contribute to improved student learning.
