Scoil Mhuire Student Council

Student Voice and Leadership

The Student Council was first established in Scoil Mhuire in 2009. It advocates for students and ensures that their voices, ideas, and opinions are heard and communicated to management and staff.

Students from each class group, from 1st to 6th Year, may put themselves forward as candidates and are democratically elected by their peers. Meetings are held on a fortnightly basis, where members demonstrate leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while addressing student concerns, organising events and fundraising activities, contributing to school policy and decision-making, and promoting a positive school culture.

To date, the Student Council has introduced many positive changes in Scoil Mhuire, including the introduction of school trousers for girls, indoor seating areas, outdoor dining facilities, involvement in the annual Wellbeing and Bí Cineálta Week, participation in the ratification of school policies, the introduction of a card machine in the school shop, and the installation of the Fáilte stone at the main entrance, among many other initiatives.
